Dumf and Galwy in Action
Border Collies excell in many disciplines and can be trained to fullfill many tasks. We work our dogs mainly in Obedience and, if possible, sheepwork.
Sheepwork is the ultimate task for a Border Collie; and who ever saw a Border Collie working knows what I mean. Even though I donnot think that a Border Collie needs to work sheep to live a happy life working a dog can help to understand Your Border Collie and tells You much about this wonderful breed. The most important is to train Your dog properly as sheep have their own life and should not be stressed just to give Your Border Collie fun.
I have started working our dogs in 2003 with great help of Christine Fischer, Clan Alba. A year later Denise Nardelli and me got Training companions.Obedience for me is more than just a sport, it is a lifestyle! Even though we are training for competitions after the FCI- rules our training system, motivation training and style of many excersices is obviously influenced by the British way of working Obedience dogs. English Heelwork makes me get goose bumbs!
In training we use Clicker- training to teach new excersizes or shaping for improvement. Motivation and a happy, in tention working dog is most important to keep the static excersices interesting.
I came to Obedience in 1998 when I got Angela White's book Happy Dogs - Happy Winners, since than I am most fascinated by this sport.
